CFIDS is typically marked by symptoms that cluster into a triad known as “brain fog”, pain, and fatigue, and result in a cascade of debilitating symptoms. The fatigue is often incapacitating and involves a phenomenon called “push-crash”. This is a pronounced post-exertional malaise - a worsening of symptoms following physical or mental exertion occurring within 12-48 hours and requiring an extended recovery period. CFIDS usually involves one or more types of pain, as well as cognitive problems, especially short-term memory and processing speed.
